The vision for CP Pinball, which later became Atomic Pinball Arcade, began when Chuck Sanderson owned a retail tool and equipment store in Wood River, Illinois. With free time while his wife worked nights, Sanderson frequented local bowling alleys and bars playing pinball. Frustrated by broken machines, he bought his first game, a Hurricane, at a Super Auction for $800. He quickly became hooked, expanding his collection with the help of pinball enthusiasts like Chad Keller and Larry Lassen, learning restoration and repair along the way.
By 2005, Sanderson and Larry teamed up to buy, fix, and sell pinball machines, improving the quality and size of his collection. After the 2007 market downturn, they parted ways, but Sanderson continued to grow his personal collection and eventually found commercial property in June 2007. This led to the opening of CP Pinball, housing over 80 pinballs, video games, and collectibles, hosting tournaments, open play nights, and other events, becoming a local hub for pinball enthusiasts.
As the collection outgrew CP Pinball, Sanderson moved to a larger facility in August 2023 and rebranded it as Atomic Pinball Arcade, now featuring over 125 pinball machines at 102 N Whitelaw Ave in Wood River. He credits the success of his venture to friends and collaborators who helped with websites, operations, and game restoration, and most of all to his wife Joyce, for supporting his passion and extensive collection.
The arcade began with one machine and a vision for quality play. Every game is maintained with care to keep the fun going.
Each pinball and arcade unit is checked and tuned so players always get smooth gameplay without issues or downtime.
The space is clean, friendly, and monitored. Families and players of all ages can enjoy the arcade with peace of mind.
Tournaments and events bring in skilled players. It’s a place where anyone can grow, compete, and enjoy the challenge.

Pricing starts at $399 for 30 guests, with higher rates for larger groups.
Yes! Gift cards start at $20, which covers a full night pass on Wednesday or Friday or 4 hours of play on Saturday.
Atomic Pinball Arcade has over 150 pinball machines and a variety of arcade games. Titles may rotate due to maintenance or space, so each visit can be a new experience.

Atomic Pinball Arcade took me right back to my childhood, but the selection here is on another level. I’ve never seen this many machines in one place, and every one I played was in perfect condition. Easily the best pinball experience in the Midwest
